Defend the Faith

Imagine you wanted to have a conversation with someone on a particular topic, but when you meet the person, you cannot help but change the topic of conversation to something else. Maybe this new topic became even more important and urgent than what you previously had to say.

That was Jude’s story.

It blows my mind that the entire chapter of Jude was going to be a discussion on salvation. According to Jude “I find that I must write about something else” (Jude 1: 3). A more urgent message came… “Defend the Faith”.

What are we defending?

The fact that God’s grace doesn’t mean we should continue in sin.

It means there are messages/ people/ teachings parading the marvelous grace of God as an avenue to continue in immorality. And everyday, we must defend the faith and point people to the truth. Grace is a call for holiness, not an avenue to continue in sin. (Romans 6:1-4)

It means, it might have an atom of truth in it (that God’s marvelous grace is available), but if it doesn’t spur people to be filled with love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and genuine faith (1 Tim 1:5), then you can’t just let it slide.

A variant of the truth is harmful, risky, misleading. We are talking about lives here. We can’t look away. 🥹

So we must…

Build each other up in our most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit…. Show mercy to those whose faith is wavering. Rescue others by snatching them from the flames of judgment. Show mercy to still others, but do so with great caution, hating the sins that contaminate their lives. Jude 1:20-22.

And defend with and in love.

This is my note to self ❤️ and just incase you need it too

Love,
